When I was in the 6th grade I went for a routine check up and the doc said well she is 6 pounds over weight according to the chart not a big deal but you may want to address it now before it gets out of control. That is the first memory of the # on the scale that I had

    I was in 5th grade, 5′ 4″, and 125 pounds; I wore a woman’s size 10 jeans.

I dreaded the annual spring ritual of height and weight measurement conducted in front of the class by the teacher. I recall being called up to the front of the class, one pupil at a time, and stepping on the scale while my classmates watched and hypothesized about my weight and whether or not I was the fattest in the class.

And i ended up not doing the weight competion and i was really ed bcuz i gained all that weight. So i’ve had the worst time trying to maintain a healthy diet and i went into martial arts which helped alot and now im back to my original weight 105 and now im 5 foot 2. But also i had a tough time with money being an issue bcuz i only have my mom.

i first looked to me and my weight when i was around 10 years old and i was starting to get into puberty and i watch myself getting from a very thin child into a veeeeery curvy and fat almost-woman that couldnt stop eating what she shouldnt. since then i pay attention to what i eat and found my passion in dance what makes me in shape :)

    I was always the …
I was always the chubby child – shy, teased often. Food was a celebration. It was a comfort that replaced a warm blanket or hug. It was the friend who was always there. I was conditioned to become an emotional & binge eater. Diets, would inevitability end in a slip, which would turn into a large downhill spiral fueled by regret and guilt.

After years of unhealthy yo-yo- dietting, I eventually ballooned up to 440 pounds. At 5′ 10″ every daily task became a marathon.

    I first became …
I first became conscious about my weight back when I was dancing ballet, at about 12. My dance teacher would remind our class that the “ideal body” was lean, and thin so that we could best see our shape and movements. She said that if we were heavy our movements would look sloppy. I began watching what I ate and have been extremely critical of myself ever since then.

When I was in the 5th grade I started to wear jeans. Now I have always been a heavy child but wearing sweats and such kinda masked it, but the jeans did no justice.

When I started to wear jeans I found the bullying part of my life began, but now I am in highschool and I still wear jeans but I have a higher self confidence even though according the media I am 20lbs over weight.

    I was a skinny baby …
I was a skinny baby. Eating was the last thing on my list. But then we moved from WA to MS when I was in elementary and I found out I loved Southern cooking! In 3rd grade, we had a PE class and when I got on the scale I was shocked. I was at 99lbs! It snuck up on me. Ever since it’s been a constant battle with joy when I lost weight and sadness when I gained (including lots of cookie dough). It will always be a worry in my mind. I’m afraid of what the future would hold if I didn’t watch it.

    In the seventh …
In the seventh grade I realized that at 150+ pounds I was overweight for my height. I was never involved in sports up til then. I joined athletics and ever since then I have tried to lead an active life. I graduated from high school this year and am proud to say that I am at a smaller, healthier size than I was in the seventh grade.

In grade school, I started figure skating and I was always one of the bigger girls on the ice. I was not HUGE or unhealthy when I look at the pictures, but, I felt very big. My mom also would not allow me to buy certain dresses (skating) or regular clothes because of my size. I am currently 29 and working on getting healthy. At my heaviest, I was 196, I am currently 175 and am looking to get down to 145-150, but that is going to depend on some health issues that make it difficult to lose weight.

    On the nutrition …
On the nutrition fact panel. It will say like for example 100 calories..but that means 100 calories in a serving size. So if it was a box of Cheerios then you’d be getting 100 calories in 3/4 cup of them not the entire box.

I didn’t realize that I had a weight problem until I told my husband what I weighed and he looked at me in awe. He told me that he was only 20 lbs heavier than me and he was 218. I almost cried! My ideal body weight according to the BMI is 150 ( I think) because I’m 5′ 8”. Ever since he made this comment to me, I’ve been unhappy and I have been working on losing weight. I’m really glad I found your videos because they’ve been helping a lot

    I never really …
I never really cared about my weight until I switched over to a new dance studio. The teacher at my dance studio would always critisize me about my weight and at times even told me to skip meals to achieve the ideal body of a ballerina. Of course I never bothered doing so, but her words stuck onto me and often led to having me think twice before I ate something. I quit about a year later, but was never able to eat the same ever again.

    I was unconcerned …
I was unconcerned with my weight till high school and I even ate extra portions because I felt that having a bigger body figure would make me look more mature! I was quite small and i was mistaken to be almost 4 yrs younger than I actually was. One day my family exclaimed that I had thunder thighs!(fat thighs). I started feeling insecure and unhappy and wondered if others thought that way too. I reduced my calorie intake and started exercising. I hope I can be thin and feel confident again (:

The first time I became keenly aware of my weight I was in 7th grade. I was 5′8 and 120 pounds. A friends brother who was an adult in his 30’s told me I was “getting hippy.” I look back on that now and realize I was most likely starting puberty and becoming curvy. From that one comment I had a distorted view of my body.
